Africa’s unique challenges, coupled with its abundant potential, position the continent as a frontier for redefining work and innovation. By harnessing sustainable development practices and embracing technologies such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure, the continent can foster economic growth while preserving resources for future generations. Collaboration among governments, stakeholders, and educational institutions is critical to nurturing a labour force equipped with skills that align with the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy. This conference envisions an Africa where innovation thrives, opportunities are abundant, and development is inclusive, ensuring a resilient and prosperous future for all. This is a is a call to action for transformative thinking.

The African Finance and Economic Association (AFEA), in association with the Department of Economics at the University of Nairobi, Kenya are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the Annual Conference of the African Finance and Economic Association. The meeting will take place at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya on 16 to 18 July 2025. The broad theme and sub-themes for the conference as well as important dates for submission of abstracts are found below.

Unpublished papers on all aspects of African economic growth and development are welcome, but preference will be given to those that pertain to the conference theme. Organized sessions are also welcome. Abstracts no longer than 500 words should be submitted to submission link here no later than 31 January 2025. Some funding might be available for graduate students from Africa. If applicable, please indicate the need for funding in your submission.

Requirements

For any proposal or full paper to be considered, the first page MUST provide the following:  

  1. A title of the proposal/paper.
  2.  A concise abstract of no more than 500 words summarizing the paper’s objective, methodology, (if empirical paper; data and sampling period), key preliminary results, and contribution to literature. 
  3. Primary & two secondary JEL classification codes that best describe the paper.  
  4. Contact information (especially emails) and affiliations of ALL contributing authors.
