University of Nairobi female students had a rare opportunity to engage senior women employees from East Africa Breweries Limited, EABL who encouraged them to chart their own path since life doesn’t have a manual.

Female students were being mentored by senior women from EABL as part of the spirited women international women’s day celebrations. The event happened on March 4, 2020.

That was the key subject of discussion during the first ever  dialogue event between the students and National Police Service held at Taifa Hall on Friday February 28, 2020.

The University of Nairobi, the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), the Rift Valley Institute (RVI), and Rako Research and Communication Centre based in Hargeisa, Somaliland, will launch a collaborative research project on Diaspora Humanitarianism in Complex Crises (D-Hum).

A team from PricewaterhouseCoopers on Friday February 21, 2020 visited the University of Nairobi’s School of Business at Lower Kabete for a graduate recruitment drive. The students in attendance were from the School of Business, School of Mathematics and School of Economics.

University of Nairobi has been ranked 7 among the top 10 universities in Africa in 2020 by the African Exponent.

The African exponent has ranked universities in Africa based on licenses, accreditation by the relevant bodies in each country, mode of delivery of the courses; teaching and learning, four year undergraduate degree  and post graduate programs offered.

This publication also matched the ranking released by unirank of top 200 universities.

The University of Nairobi is one among seven of the African Host Universities in the area of ‘Energy including renewables’ and has been allocated 11 PhDs students in 2019/2020 to pursue PhD in physics beginning May 2019/2020.  

“Yellow colour is an indication of maturity but not dying locust. However, at the later age the yellow colouring becomes very bright and the locusts will start copulating and laying eggs and at this stage we can say  that they are dying. And unless one is following a swarm from the immature stage up to maturity no one can tell when the first egg laying has occurred, ”  corrected Dr. George Ong’amo, an entomologist from UoN.

Entomological  Society of Kenya  coordinated by UoN's don Dr. George Ong'amo Otieno continue to monitor the state of locust invasion in Kenya.  Dr. Ong’amo noted that the locust invasion is not necessarily confined to arid and semi-arid areas as is the habit of locusts but could likely spread to the whole country. They attributed the spread to the cyclones, the young age of the locust and the fast rate of breeding. At the moment they’re moving north towards Turkana County, Southern Sudan and North-eastern Uganda.
